Major Gregory Settle was commissioned a second lieutenant Field Artillery in 2001 from Southern Illinois State University, Carbondale, Illinois. His initial assignments included fire direction officer with C Battery, 3rd Battalion, 123rd Field Artillery Regiment, Illinois Army National Guard. Over the course of his career his command assignment was: Company D, 2nd Battalion, 130th Infantry Regiment, Salem, IL. He has also served in various staff positions throughout his career including Liaison Officer, Executive Officer, Training Officer and Battalion Operations Officer. MAJ Settle deployed in 2003 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as the STARC-IL, Staff Officer. He deployed a second time in 2004 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as C Battery, 3rd Battalion, 123rd Field Artillery Regiment Platoon Leader. His latest deployment in 2008 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom was as HHC, 2nd Battalion, 130th Infantry Regiment Company Mentor CNIK ETT.

MAJ Settle’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with V device (with two Oak Leaf Clusters), the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (with two Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Achievement Medal (with two Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (2nd Award), the National Defense Service Medal (with Bronze Service Star), the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terror Service Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with ‘M’ device (with Hourglass Device), the Army Service Ribbon, the Army Overseas Service Ribbon, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Air Assault Badge, the Parachutist Badge, and the Army Physical Fitness Badge.

MAJ Settle’s military education includes the United States Army Basic Parachutist School, Field Artillery Officer Basic Course, Infantry Maneuver Captains Career Course, and the United States Army Air Assault School. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 2001. MAJ Settle is married to the former Amanda Spitzer. They have one child, Jackson and reside in Marion, Illinois.
