Gary W. Stokes
Lieutenant Colonel Gary W. Stokes received his Reserve commission through Southern Illinois University-Carbondale’s Army ROTC program in 1993. He is a graduate of the Military Police Officer Basic Course (1995); the Judge Advocate Officer Basic Course (2004); the Judge Advocate Officer Advanced Course (2007); the Command and General Staff College/ILE (2010); and the US Army War College (2017). Lieutenant Colonel Stokes’ assignments as a Judge Advocate include duty at the 91st Legal Support Organization, Fort Sheridan, IL; the 416th Theater Engineer Command, Darien, IL; the NATO Rule of Law Field Support Mission / Rule of Law Field Force – Afghanistan, Kabul, Afghanistan; the 91st Legal Operations Detachment, Darien, IL; and the 310th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), Indianapolis, IN. His awards include the Bronze Star Medal; Meritorious Service Medal; Army Commendation Medal, second award; Army Achievement Medal; Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal; Armed Forces Reserve Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon, sixth award; and the NATO Medal. Lieutenant Colonel Stokes holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale (1993); a Juris Doctor degree from the Chicago-Kent College of Law (2002); and a Master of Strategic Studies degree from the US Army War College (2017).
